This small, typically Spanish inland town is located in the western part of the Lecrin Valley overlooked by the Almibara and Guajores mountain ranges. Granada City is 45km north while the coast is a short drive south, both being accessed by the E-902.
The origin of the towns name dates back to the Celtic period when it was known as Bunuelas. The Romans kept the original name and it was under the Arabs that 'Al' was added.
The local economy is based on farming and agriculture although rural tourism in this particular area is on the increase. However, despite this increase, the town still has some way to go to catch up with its more popular Alpujarran counterparts which means that local facilities and amenities are somewhat limited. For those looking for a taste of true rural Spain and a pace of life that is most definately set to 'relaxed' then this is the place to find it.
Albunuelas is one of the many towns & cities in the beautiful region of Granada Spain. Discover Granada Costa Tropical with the history, local information, property sales and holiday listings at Viva-Granada.com
