This large town is located in the north-east of the Province along the A-92N and just over 100km from Granada City and sits on the slopes of the Sierra De Baza range.

Throughout its long history the town has been occupied by and linked to many Mediterranean cultures including the Phoenicians, the Greeks, the Carthiginians, the Visigoths and the Romans. However, it was under the Arabs that the town flourished and found its cultural and economic strength before succumbing to the Christian Reconquest in 1489.

Whilst preserving important buildings from the 16th and 17th Centuries that convey its past splendour, the years following this period saw an economic and cultural decline which lasted up until quite recently. There has, however, been a recent effort to put Baza back on the cultural map, the result of which is a small expanding city whose modern outlook is combined with a sense of pride in its rich and varied history.

Aswell as having all the amenities and conveniences of a growing modern town the district of Baza and its municipalities are becoming popular destinations for those seeking outdoor adventure. The Sierra de Baza Natural Park boasts a magnificent and varied scenery and the nearby Lake Negratin offers a diverse range of watersports.
