This Moorish castle was built at the top of a rocky outcrop and presides over the town of Salobrena that clings to the rocks below. The existance of a fortification here has been known since the 10th Century but the present structure was built by the Arabs under the Nasrid dynasty, later being added to by the Christians during the 15th Century. Every year thousands of visitors take the steep walk up the hill to visit this fortified castle, it is 105 metres above sea level and the panoramic views from the various towers are awe-inspiring across the fertile plains, mountains and the Mediterranean. The castle gardens are in bloom throughout the year.
