This small town is located in the north-east of the Province 154km from Granada City.

The surrounding area was first occupied by the Romans although the town itself was founded by the Arabs for whom this was an important military enclave.

The main economic activities here are centred around agriculture and farming and the local lifestyle is that of an authentic, rural Andalucian town. The natural surroundings are picturesque and the peaks of the Sierra Montilla mountains provide a dramatic backdrop.

As with many towns in this particular part of country the nature of the surrounding landscape is attracting more tourists seeking outdoor adventure.
