Located just off the A-92 within an hours drive east of Granada City. Jerez del Marquesado falls within the boundaries of the Sierra Nevada Natural Park whose high mountain peaks provide a spectacular backdrop. This small, typically Spanish town has a distinctive rural appeal and is the perfect base from which to explore and enjoy the beauty of the surrounding countryside. Although local services are somewhat limited the towns proximity to Guadix (10min drive away) provides convenient access to a wider selection of shops and amenities.
The area surrounding the town was inhabited by humans as far back as Neolithic times and was occupied by both the Romans (who knew it as Sericus-Sericis) and the Arabs (who knew it as Mecina-Xeriz).
The Parish Church, located a short walk from the Plaza de la Constitution, was built during the 16th century over an old Mezquita and is a fusion of Arabic and Christian Renaissance styles.
