This popular tourist town is located in the south-west of the Province along the N-340 approximately 75km from Granada City. Situated right on the coast overlooking a natural bay with the peaks of the Natural Park of Las Sierras de Tejeda, Almijara & Alhama providing a dramatic backdrop.
The history of La Herradura is very closely linked to that of the neighbouring town of Almunecar, being occupied by Phoenicians, Romans and Moors. The expulsion of the latter during the 16th Century lead to a period of decline until the advent of tourism towards the end of the 20th Century.
La Herradura has everything expected of a coastal tourist town with many amenities and shops aswell as numerous bars and restaurants. There is easy access to natural beaches and quiet coves while watersports lovers will find plenty to enjoy at the Marina del Mediterraneo Este which is found on the eastern side of town. Aswell as its rising popularity as a tourist destination La Herradura is becoming increasingly popular with northern Europeans seeking a life in the sun.
