The town has a rich history, first being settled by Arabs and then falling to the Catholic Monarchs during the reconquest. Apparently it was here that Queen Isabel came seriously close to being captured by the Muslim enemy, managing to escape by hiding in nearby woods.
The present day town of La Zubia is seen as a residential area of Granada with an industrial and commercial centre that plays an important role within the economy of the city.
