Las Gabias is located 8km southwest of Granada City and is considered part of the metropolitan area.

Originally made up of two seperate towns, Gabia la Grande and Gabia la Chica, the two municipalities joined to become one in 1973.

Gabia la Grande is by far the larger of the two towns and is where you will find the commercial heart of the municipality while Gabia la Chica (just a couple of kms away) has the feel of a small rural village.

The main economic actitvity is construction with many factories making bricks. Metalwork and glasswork are also an important part of the economy and, although in decline, farming is still important aswell.
