Good advice. Speak to the Ayuntamiento (town hall) of the municipality in which you live. They should be able to advise you regarding any restrictions and help you get the correct permiso (permission) for the work needed. With the permisso, you will usually pay a small tax, about 2% of the value of the work you're going to have done.

Thanks Heath,
I recall a rule in Spain that a house terrace cannot over look a neighbours terrace. I am not building one. The house I bought is an old village house on a hill in the middle of three. The house behind built upwards, the house to the left built upwards and all their windows overlook my 45m terrace. I just remember thinking I thought that was not allowed. icon_confused.gif
However the old lady that lived in the house had apparently not lived there for years so maybe they did it without objections.
It is not a big deal. I was just wondering. I thankyou for taking the time to reply.
