We are going out to the Granada area for 3 weeks in july, to take some time to look around for a nice community to live in in a few years time. When we have found a nice area we intend to rent for a while so that we can take time to look and find the right place. We fancy something in the country with some land. Any help or sdvice would be appreciated and we would love to meet up with anyone who has already made the move

Hola
I may be able to help with accommodation and sourcing properties for you. We live in the campo about a kilometre outside Castillejar which is approx 120k from Granada and there are many villages around here which may be of interest to you.

We bought a Cortijo on 6 acres of land that required total refurbishment.

If you feel you would like to look at properties in this area I can source the information for you please advise on the type of property you are looking for.

Regards

We live in the village of Castillo de Tajarja. It's small, rural and we're one of only two British families out of a population of 200 locals. We get on great with the locals in the village and have thouroughly enjoyed living here. We're also handy for the airport and the city, without feeling like we're on their doorstep.

There's plenty of diversity in Granada Province, which is why we settled here.

My parents are moving here permanently at the end of June and have managed to buy a beautifully reformed cortijo with about 6000 square metres of land, in a lovelly spot that is 15 minutes from the towns of Loja and Huetor Tajar in either direction. Their property cost 255,000 Euros, but is immaculate. There are plenty of options for country properties, although alot of them may need considerable work doing to them, so it's well worth going to look at a few to see what you're prepared to take on.

I can possibly help with a couple of contacts for renting or buying properties that may be quite useful. PM me f you need any info.

Hope this helps. [/b]

Moving out here - the temperature is not secondary. You are coming to the hottest part of Spain- after all Africa and its winds are just spitting distance away. You may feel that with all the mod cons firing away you'll cope fine. But the older you get the more difficult it is to cope with the heat. And many elderly end up suffering from dehydration and also heat stroke. So daily life in the big heat ought to be re-thought if you have not experienced it beyond the fortnights away on the costas. icon_rolleyes.gif
