Hello everybody,

we are looking for a cortijo in the area of Albunol/Albondon. Is there anyone who can tell us about living in this area (how do the Spanish people feel about expats, how are the beaches in summer, how are the roads in winter, how long does it take to understand the Andalucian pronunciation etc.)

In two weeks we will be in Albunol again, so it would be really great if there is anyone we could meet and talk to about their experiences.

kind regards,

Joo

Hi Joo

I live in Albuñol and have been here for 4 years now, I have sent you a pm as well. here it is mild all winter, today the temperature has been around 25dg, it will get cooler though, the beaches are shingle.
All the locals are very welcoming to us but you will need to speak or start to speak Spanish, not many English speakers here.

Albondon is quite a bit colder in the winter, but ultimatly the choice is yours.

Thank you, pwwm, wonderful to hear from you,

25 dg sounds heaven, here we had rain and fog all day and it was very cold. Do you swim at this time of the year, or is the water too cold?

You wrote that Albondon is much colder. It seems so close to Albunol, I think it was app. 10 minutes by car. Is it the height that makes the difference?

I do study Spanish, and when I am in my course group I sometimes think I am learning quite a bit, but the last time I was in Spain I was really disappointed at myself. Especially talking was much harder than I had thougt, understanding went quite ok, but I needed so much time to remember words and phrases ... I really need to work on that.

What did you do to learn the language?

Hi Joo

Fistly yes it is due to the height for Albondon re the weather, here at the moment my pool is 19, too cold for me but our visitors last week went in brrrrr. I scuba dive so go in the sea but with wet suits and the sea is about 22dg at the moment.

Today it is again about 24dg will check when I go through town later. Where abouts are you in UK? any questions just ask.

regards pwwm

Hi pwwm,

thank you for your message. It is wonderful to hear from you, to read about going to town later, swimming in the sea etc. To me this is still a dream that might become reality.

Actually I'm not from the UK, but from the Netherlands. I guess the weather here or in the UK will not be very different, so you know what I am talking about when I say wet and cold.

Did you always do scubadiving of have you taken it up in Spain? It must be great.

One of the questions I would like to ask is about the plastic near the coast.
Did you find a place where you don't have to look at much plastic, or does it simply not bother you much after a while.
I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the plastic al the way down to the beach and I do hope to find a cortijo with a nice view, not too far from the sea, but rather without the plastic. Do you think that is possible?

Kind regards, hope to hear from you again,

O yes, another question. Do you have much jellyfish in summer?

Hi Joo

O met some people from the Netherlands the other day funny enought, ver nice as well. No I took up diving more the 15 years ago, just carry on here.

Re the plastic, well the stuff near the coast is going as they are going to be building down there, golf course and hotel etc. Re the stuff here no signs of it going at the moment but quite honestly it does not bother us, better that than somewhere with high rises and larger louts, they have to work somewhere.

Re jelly fish, yes unfortunaly we do have them but around June/July time but that ends to be all of the Spanish coast not just here, I find they can be a problem one day and thenwashed away the next.

Hello all I am new to this site. We have brought a property in Albunol over 2 yrs ago now it is one of the Balcones de Albunol properties, we love it there and have a really lovely community. We have always found all the Spanish villagers to be very friendly and helpful, I think that if you try to speak a little Spanish then you are liked even more. I would reccomend Albunol to anyone xx The Wiggos icon_biggrin.gif

Hi,

I am in Mirador ... across from Balcones.

Have started a community page for the development on Viva but as you will see there are not many takers at the moment and a few more of the appts have been sold since we completed.

If you dont want loud bars then this may be the place ....
