<font class="content">Hello

Can anyone advise where I should go for information on bringing UK prescription medicines into Spain?
My particular concern is for a drug called Sativex which I understand is available in only certain areas of Spain.

Hi watergypsy.
If you are going to make frequent trips back to the UK and are still registered with your usual surgery over there, you are entitled to up to 6 months supply of a prescription drug in one go. When travelling, you can only carry enough meds in your hand luggage to suffice for that trip. ALL other medication should then go in your hold luggage. It is usually at your own surgery or doctor's discretion as to how many months you can have prescribed in one go, but if these are meds that you will be dependent on for life, go for the 6 months. Surgeries will usually try to limit you to 1 month at a time - this is to save on budget should your medication be stopped or changed. You could actually buy a lot of prescription drugs here, or get them for free if entitled, but health departments here are now discouraging this. Again, it's a question of cost. A lot of people were buying eg., antibiotics when they would not have been prescribed by a medico, and the Spanish health watch dogs noticed upwardly spiralling costs to their budgets! Exactly the same, really, as the UK. Chat to your UK doctor, if the drug you're worried about does not require you to have, let's say, blood tests or BP check more than once or twice a year, I think you ought to be able to get your prescriptions. Well! That was a boring read for you, but I hope there was something in there that helped!
Cheers!

<font class="content">Hi Chasinitrabo

Thank you for your very helpful information. I shall speak with my UK gp about it but I still need to know if Sativex is going to cause a problem through Spanish Customs.

As it happens, I've never had bags checked but things mgiht be different since security has supposedly been tightened - I'd rather know if a cannabis derivative is going to cause a problem. There might be a limit to how effective my w'chair will be at making officials back-off!

Thanks again for your help.
