We have recently completed the purchase of our very own property in Spain. All went relatively well with very few hitches, so if anyone has any doubts about taking that huge step, we would be pleased to assist in setting your mind at rest and giving what advice we can.

Our new home is located just a few miles from the coastal town of La Rabita, near to Albunol. We are over the moon with it and can't wait to get out there full time!

Hi Albert,

Albunol is typically Spanish - everyone seems so laid back and EVERTHING closes at 2pm! For some it may seem a little quiet, but there are bigger towns not so far away. We really like the area, especially the fishing village of La Rabita nearby. Not many English in the area yet. Wont actually be moving out to live for another 4 years and 10 months (not that I'm counting!), but we will be making good use oof it as a holiday home in the meantime.

Cheers
Martin & Cath

Hi
The area we know best is north of Granada but we go to the coast whenever we can.
We also like Almunecar and Solebrena!

Good to hear you like the area, hope all goes well for you, the area is growing with about 120 brits signed on the padron in Albuñol at the moment, although having said that a lot don't bother, so theres probably a lot more around. The other coastal village also have a good number of Brits living in them.

its a sham that a lot more don't register with the town hall as they are not doing the community any favours icon_redface.gif
As far as i know all of the foreign ex pats who live in my area are registered as this gives us a lot of capital,, that the town hall can use e.g free internet access free lessons for spanish,, better lighting,, rubbish removal,, better roads. icon_cool.gif icon_cool.gif etc

Can't agree more with you on that...we got our place in June, but won't be out there again until another 2 weeks, but one of the first things on our list of things to do, will be to register at the Town Hall.

It is probably just a "British thing" that prevents a lot of others doing it, perhaps they think there is a hidden agenda behind it? But like you say the benefits are that you get better services all round, so why do people not register? Nature of the beast I suppose.

Where abouts are you Sheila?

Regards
Martin & Cath

Hi casafruitas
we are in the province of Seville but on the borders of Granada and Malaga provinces,we live in a small village called Lora de Estepa (20 minutes north of Antiquera) of which there is about 800 residents and around 10 british couples.
we bought our place 3 year this November and hope to move out permanent in 2008 (work commitments icon_evil.gif icon_evil.gif don,t you just hate it)
I have seen a huge improvement in our village in the last two years better roads free internet at the bibliteca and the villagers are all so friendly they always stop to say hello and ask if everything is O.K.only down side to that is it can take awile to get a few things from the shops icon_biggrin.gif
we even have a little hardware store were the lady who runs is always asking us to please speak English as she is trying to learn (Bless)

Thanks for the insight. We know your area reasonably well as this is where we first started house-hunting...some stunning countryside up there.

Not quite sure how we ended up where we are, but just had a day out there once and fell in love with the area and the rest is history!

We have another 3 years on top of your date for when we can move out permanently (again due to work icon_cry.gif ), but at least it will give us plenty of time to get the place as we want it prior to us going out full time.

Good luck, Martin & Cath
