We bought our house, close to Castell de Ferro just over two years ago and it is located in a small village one mile up a steep dirt track! After we first viewed it, I was terrified of the height of the track and the sheer drop to one side, and said it was a definite no no, but we loved the tranquility of the place, so I took a deep breath and said "Let's go for it"!!

It was originally a bodega (a winery) hubby says it's an appropriate name, as I do a lot of whining (and wining)!!!

We have changed it from a single storey building with an upper floor extension and are still having work done on it at the moment. We are also trying to do as much as we can ourselves, but quite often it is difficult as we only have limited holiday entitlement with our current jobs.

We have put our house on the market in England and can't wait to relocate. I've already got lots of boxes packed ready to go!

We are so looking forward to starting our new life, even in our maturing years (50's)

Good on you, Maisie! Sounds like a lovely place you have and makes a refreshing change from those horror stories you hear. I still don't think we would ever be tempted with an off-plan build. We are just a little further on the coast from you, just inland from La Rabita. It's a beautiful area and we both fell in love with it as soon as we went there.

We only completed our purchase last month so we are still in the honeymoon period! Can't actually get out to live there for another 5 years yet, but at least its there for plenty holiday use. How long will you be before you move there full time?

Well done on taking the plunge and sharing it with us!

We were hoping to be in the throes of moving by now (maybe a little optimistic I know, as we only put our house on the market at Easter) but as soon as it sells that it, we're off!!

I'm trying not to get too impatient as the market seems a little slow where we are at the moment. But I've got a shed load of boxes and bubble-wrap just waiting to be used.

I sourced a removal company from this site, and I am currently asking for a quote, so it has proved it's worth already!

We passed through the coastal road of La Rabita when we were on our recci to view properties, but that's as far as we have got so far, hope to visit it and surrounding areas once we relocate (although I may have to view with a friend as hubby will be far too busy to spend time doing touristy things!) His words not mine, honest! He is itching to get cracking doing all the internal stuff like re-wiring, plumbing, plastering (that should be fun (not) as he's never done any!!! Well, when I say plastering, I mean yesso, he's already used a very small amount and couldn't believe how quick it went "off".

Boy, will we have some "experiences" to talk of.........can't wait

It hasn't all be plain sailing though.........to be continued......

When we were looking for properties, we had no idea where to start, but we looked in Sur and saw lots of properties advertised in Castell de Ferro, so we just drove into the town, stopped and picked a name out of the paper - a gamble, yes, but it paid off - we contacted Alan & Carol Wilkinson of Wilkinson Estates, they also run Costa Tropical Estates. They took us to their home (which doubles as an office) and were very helpful. They have guided us all the way and we visit them each time we are in Spain and now consider them as friends. Tel No. 0034 635 093 596. (If you do contact them mention Glow & Mike).

We love Castell as it's not too built up and has a very friendly and relaxed feels about it. I have been reading up about La Rabita on the net and hope to visit the area during our next visit in Oct.

Good look in your searches.
