Located on the banks of the Guadalfeo river in the Alpujarra area. Granada City is 58km to the north while Motril and the Costa Tropical are 32km south.
Orgiva originally seems to have been an Ibero-Roman settlement and mant objects, including coins and pottery, dating from this period have been found on various digs in and around the town.
The main economic activities of the town are farming and cattle rearing aswell as the cultivation of olives, barley, almonds and fruit. Due to its location on the boundary of the Sierra Nevada Natural Park and the opportunities for numerous outdoor activities Orgiva is also popular with tourists seeking an alternative to the coastal areas.
While the town centre has a more modern feel the older neighbourhoods are typically 'Alpujarran' being made up of small, white-washed houses built along narrow, winding streets.
Orgiva is one of the many towns & cities in the beautiful region of Granada Spain. Discover Granada Costa Tropical with the history, local information, property sales and holiday listings at Viva-Granada.com
