It was built in the XVI century, probably over the old mosque; Armilla has among its patrimony the parochial church of San Miguel Arcángel. It is an example of the temples built by the Granada’s Mudejars having as reference the aesthetic and religious Spanish-Muslim traditions. Among its inner elements, it has a rich caisson that covers its central section, as well as some images of great antiquity. The image of the Cristo de la Expiracion attributed to Alonso Cano, a Nazareno and the San Miguel Arcángel stand out. In 1931 the tower was elevated a few meters over its original height, so that the bells were more audible from the distance.
