Located just off the N-432 Pinos Puente sits at the foot of the Sierra de Elvira mountain range on the northern border of a fertile expanse of land known as the Vega.
The towns history is very closely linked to that of Granadas and, along with the nearby town of Santa Fe, was an important strategic point during the Reconquest. Local legend has it that an emissary of Queen Isabel reached Colombus on the bridge (still standing today) as he was about to leave Granada after negotiations regarding his Atlantic voyage broke down.
The main street (Calle Real) is where the towns commercial centre lies while, just a short walk away, are the pretty streets of the older neighbourhoods. As with many towns on the Vega the main economic activities are based on agriculture including the cultivation of tobacco, plums and black-poplar tree wood. The lifestyle takes on a slightly unsophisticated feel, particularly in the old town areas but the proximity to Granada City (16km away) gives ample opportunity for enjoying a wider array of cultural activities. Also, the historic towns of Illora and Montefrio are within easy reach along with the spectacular natural beauty of the Poniente Grenadino region.
Pinos Puente is one of the many towns & cities in the beautiful region of Granada Spain. Discover Granada Costa Tropical with the history, local information, property sales and holiday listings at Viva-Granada.com
