Located just off the A-92 in the east of the province. Granada City is just 53km to the west while the large town of Guadix is just a 10 minute drve away.
The name Purullena has an Arab origin although the local history dates back almost 3,000 years when the area was inhabited by prehistoric tribes.
After the Reconquest the town belonged to the Crown and later, during the 17th Century, was awarded the title 'Villa Real' (Royal Villa).
Most commercial activities are based along the towns main road (Calle Carretera) with a large number of ceramic shops selling locally made pots and gifts. As is common in this part of the province there are many neighbourhoods comprised of cave dwellings - a tradition that goes back hundreds of years. The terrain around Purullena is made up of strange rock formations that take on an almost lunar like appearance giving the town a dramatic and unusual backdrop.
Purullena is one of the many towns & cities in the beautiful region of Granada Spain. Discover Granada Costa Tropical with the history, local information, property sales and holiday listings at Viva-Granada.com
