Located in the south of the province on the slopes of the Contraviesa mountain range. Granada City is 80km to the north while the coast is a very short drive to the south.
The first references to this town date back to the Arabs who were attracted to the area due to its suitability for crop cultivation. During the 16th Century expulsion of the Moriscos the area became almost deserted not being repopulated until the 18th Century.
As with the neighbouring towns of Lujar and Polopos, Rubite is a typical small inland Spanish town where the pace of life is slow with a distinct rural charm. The town consists of pretty white-washed houses built around narrow winding streets and the surrounding countryside is really quite beautiful. The main economic activities include the cultivation of almonds, figs and grapevines. Local services are somewhat limited, however, a wider selection of shops and amenitites can be found nearby in the larger town Albunol.
Rubite is one of the many towns & cities in the beautiful region of Granada Spain. Discover Granada Costa Tropical with the history, local information, property sales and holiday listings at Viva-Granada.com
